HEAVEN’S DOOR
X-Files: I Want to Believe meets Silence of the Lambs
BBE optioned Heaven’s Door from award winning writer, Deborah Hewett-Elson. BBE is developing the script as an independent production (5 to 15 million) with Nick Delfino slated as the film’s director.
LOGLINE: A psychopathic doctor is killing patients to record their crossing-over into the afterlife. A game of “catch me if you can” is on to stop the voyeuristic killer from opening heaven's door.
PLOT SUMMARY: To prove the existence of Heaven, the genius of Dr. Timothy Ames has found a way to tap into the subconscious mind of his dying victims. This discovery allows Ames to visually document the crossing over into the afterlife. Ames is consumed by his diabolical experiments and sends more and more unknowing patients to an early grave. Dr. Ames makes a fateful mistake when he kills the wife and unborn child of FBI Agent Ben Alden. Driven by grief and questioning his own belief in the afterlife, Alden races against time to stop the elusive killer before he sends another victim across the threshold of heaven’s door.
Two versions of the Heaven’s Door script are available. The domestic draft has the “catch me if you can” chase playing out in Arizona and Southern California. A European version of the story starts in the U.S. and stretches across the Atlantic to old world Germany. Please see development worksheets for each story synopsis and character breakdowns.
